Medina County commissioners approve routine resolutions including opioid response funding and transit vehicle purchase

Medina County commissioners on Sept. 23 approved a bundle of routine resolutions, authorizing road and right-of-way actions, advertising for a water-tank rehabilitation project, personnel changes, several finance items and purchases, and transit contract and vehicle purchases.
The package included: a resolution declaring the necessity to close Lake Road between Chippewa and Wedgwood roads and a related measure authorizing the county engineer to issue permits for existing personal property fixtures in the Lake Road right-of-way; a sanitary-engineer resolution to rehabilitate the Windfall Road elevated water storage tank and to advertise for bids; establishment of public hearings on recommended sanitary sewer and water rate increases; acceptance and awarding of the PY24 Community Development Block Grant-funded Wadsworth sidewalk replacement bid; and human-resources personnel changes covering promotions, rate adjustments, resignations and a probationary removal. All of those measures were approved by roll call vote.
In finance actions, the board approved multiple expenditure adjustments and accepted a grant to create an opioid response team for the sheriff's office, funding the position with a $60,000 appropriation tied to an attorney-general grant award. Commissioners authorized the purchase of 6,800 gallons of unleaded gasoline for the engineering center (Ports Petroleum was the low bidder at $1.845 per gallon) and approved weekly bills totaling $2,056,343.98. The board also approved travel and conference expense requests for county engineers and other officials.
Transit items approved included a contract extension with the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority to continue use of the Drake and Howe bus stop and authorization to purchase four replacement transit vehicles with FY24 Federal Transit Administration funding.
Other routine approvals included two temporary F-class permits to allow sale of beer at upcoming special events (a Brunswick Youth Baseball fundraiser on Nov. 1, 2025, and a fundraiser hosted by Kitten Crazy; the specific date for the latter was not specified on the record), designation of legal holidays for 2026, and receipt of notice regarding a new liquor permit application for Commercial Development Services at 469 Reimer Road in Wadsworth Township (the commissioners declined to request a hearing).
All recorded roll-call votes on the agenda items were recorded as "Yes" for the three commissioners present: Commissioner Sweatick, Commissioner Hambley and Commissioner Harrison.
The approvals were routine and largely uncontested; several items were introduced by department presenters and moved and seconded on the floor before unanimous roll-call approval. Several items will require follow-up actions by county staff, including public notice and bidding for the Windfall Road tank project and scheduling of hearings on proposed utility-rate changes.
