Rob Shelley, general manager of the Grand Haven Board of Light and Power (BLP), briefed council on BLP operations, reliability metrics and strategic initiatives in a presentation delivered Aug. 18. Shelley said the utility serves about 15,000 customers across 22 square miles with four substations, 13 miles of transmission and roughly 200 miles of distribution lines. He highlighted that the utility’s outage average (2.65 hours in 2023) compares favorably to the Michigan average and that the BLP was an RP3 Reliable Public Power Provider award recipient.
