Council approves mayor’s Ward 5 candidate-selection committee

The Norman City Council voted to acknowledge and approve the mayor’s appointments to the Ward 5 candidate selection committee at its special meeting Tuesday, Aug. 19. The committee members confirmed were Ayesha Prather, Randy Carter, Siobhan Evans, Heidi Smith and John Borrego.
City staff said the application process for candidates to fill the Ward 5 seat remained open through Friday at 5 p.m. and that staff would contact committee members to schedule an orientation and begin interviews. The council indicated a desire to complete the appointment by the council meeting on Sept. 9 if possible.
Council members expressed satisfaction with the slate’s diversity and said staff would coordinate the committee’s first meeting and interviews. The motion to approve the appointments was made, seconded and approved by voice vote; the transcript records “all in favor say aye” and shows no recorded opposition.
No additional conditions or amendments to the appointments were made during the meeting.
