Marysville approves Eleventh Road change order adding sewer work and sidewalk; project cost reduced overall

The Marysville City Council on Tuesday approved a change order for the Eleventh Road reconstruction that removes a planned water-line lowering, adds a relocated sewer main, and restores a sidewalk removed from the original drawings.

City Administrator Josh told the council the change order “has to do with the water lines, not being a part of the project,” and that removing the water-line lowering reduces cost by about $91,739 while adding the sewer relocation and sidewalk work increases cost by a smaller amount.

The change removes planned lowering of a water line that ultimately was not needed and adds an open-trench relocation of the sewer force main to move it farther east on the back slope of the ditch. Josh said the open-trench method is “about half” the cost of boring and also will allow placement of new fill rather than leaving existing rocky material.

Council members asked about how far east the sewer would move and about shoulder and erosion treatment along the new concrete edges. Josh said the contractor will bring in topsoil and seed the shoulders; council members urged staff to confirm whether rock or other erosion control should be used where water runoff is concentrated.

Josh told the council the project must reach substantial completion by Oct. 20 and that the contractor planned to start sewer work quickly; he also said testing found some concrete that will need replacement — “about 200 yards” — and staff will confirm the exact amount with the engineer.

Council approved the change order after a motion and second. No additional financing sources were described during the discussion.
