Enrollment tops projections; Mounds View readies schools with summer projects and expanded programs

District head count on Aug. 14 was 11,445, 317 above the January projection of 11,128. Administrators reported readiness for Sept. 2 school start, summer facility projects across schools, transportation arrangements and summaries of summer learning and community education enrollments.
Darren Johnson, the district—s executive director of school management, told the school board on Aug. 19 that Mounds View—s Aug. 14 head count was 11,445 students, 317 students above the district—s January projection of 11,128.
Johnson said the district accepted more than 155 open enrollment applications for 2025—6, with more than half of those students expected to enter kindergarten. Notable increases above projection included: Snail Lake Education Center (~80 students over projection); Turtle Lake and Island Lake (a combined ~55 students over); Chippewa (about 30 over); and Mounds View High School (about 50 over). Valentine Hills was the only school projected to start below projection.
