The Mankato school board recognized Tabitha Miller for leadership supporting implementation efforts at three focus elementary schools. Colleagues praised her systems-thinking approach and collaborative leadership.
The Mankato Area Public Schools board recognized Tabitha Miller on Aug. 18 for her work as a principal and in a special-assignment role supporting three focus elementary schools.
Travis Olsen, director of teaching and learning, introduced the spotlight and described Miller’s year of work facilitating collaboration among educators, families and district leaders. Olsen said Miller had “been instrumental in supporting the implementation efforts of 3 of our focus elementary schools,” and praised her communication skills and systems thinking.
Miller told the board she could not claim sole credit: “I couldn't have done the job without all of the people behind me and all of the people in front of me. You guys are truly a great team that continues to support what is changing for us here in MAPS.”
Board Member Paul Baker thanked Miller for stepping into a new role and called the initiative “one of the most aggressive, innovative things I think our school district has done in quite some time.” Members invited Miller to a group photo following the recognition.
Why it matters
The board used its staff-spotlight time to highlight implementation work at Bridges, Jefferson and Rosa Parks elementary schools and to acknowledge the district-level role Miller filled this year. Presenters said Miller’s work included creating environments for high standards, sustaining systems-level solutions and supporting building leaders as they continue to implement changes.
