The Hendersonville Public Works Committee on Aug. 26 unanimously approved a resolution authorizing the city to apply for a Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) stream and wetland restoration grant.
City staff described the grant as providing up to $250,000 in federal funds with a required 20% local match. “The grant provides up to $250,000 in federal funds. And then, there's a 20% match on that, so $50,000,” city staff said, adding the city intends to supply part of its match as in-kind services (design by a city design engineer) and to use the stormwater utility for any out-of-pocket match costs.
Staff identified Drakes Creek Park as the location the city plans to include in the TDEC application; staff said a section of Drakes Creek near a pedestrian bridge is experiencing severe erosion and is a high-priority restoration area.
Committee members moved and seconded the resolution; after brief discussion the committee voted “aye” and the resolution passed unanimously.
The committee also approved the minutes for its July 22, 2025 meeting by unanimous vote with one absence.
No additional funding commitments were made at the meeting beyond authorizing the application and describing potential match sources; staff said further scope and funding details would be provided if the grant application advances.
