City Attorney (staff member) told the workshop that Commissioner Bolton plans to host three fundraising events to raise money for charities on the city's approved list and that the commission must formally approve the use of any city funding or in-kind resources.
The City Attorney said being on the city's list of charities does not itself authorize the use of city resources and that, as a precaution, the item is being brought to the commission to approve the events under the city's ethics code. The staff summary said the events are planned to raise funds for listed 501(c)(3) organizations and that formal commission approval is being requested to permit use of city resources or funding as proposed.
No formal action was taken at the workshop. The item will be on the Aug. 27 commission agenda for consideration.
