Planning commission grants 5‑year extension for Slavy Village site plan at Corey Terrace

The Torrington Planning and Zoning Commission on Aug. 20 granted a five‑year extension to site plan approval No. 1345 (Slavy Village) for property at 49 and 71 Tucker Drive after a written request from the Torrington Housing Authority.
Claudia Sweeney, executive director of the Torrington Housing Authority, sought the extension in a letter noting the project remains one the authority still intends to complete. City planner Jeremy Leifer explained the statute permits extensions where there have been no significant changes to approved plans, and that if no extenuating circumstances exist the commission is generally obligated to grant extensions. Leifer said the authority had not started construction and that the statute allows the commission to extend approvals by up to five additional years.
Commissioners discussed the request briefly and approved a motion to grant a five‑year extension; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The extension continues the previous approval period for the project.
