Commission authorizes up to $15,000 in contingency for IT to cover unexpected costs

The Bannock County Board of County Commissioners on Aug. 21 authorized up to $15,000 from county contingency funds to cover potential overages in the Information Technology budget.
Adam McKinney, chief technical officer, told the board recent price increases, additional equipment and added Office 365 subscriptions have pushed his department toward a shortfall. “This year, some price changes have happened. We've added a lot of stuff, new buildings, new equipment. We've added new Office 365 subscriptions,” McKinney said. He said the department expects to return nearly $50,000 from another budget line that could offset some costs.
Commission staff said the county’s contingency account had been budgeted at $200,000; prior uses included $86,000 for an event-center tractor and $8,500 for planning and zoning furniture. If approved, the additional $15,000 would leave roughly $109,000 of the contingency balance.
A commissioner moved to allow up to $15,000 for IT to catch up on budget shortfalls; the motion passed by voice vote. The transcript records the motion and a voice vote approving it but does not include a roll-call tally.
