The Salinas Public Arts Commission voted Monday to elect Commissioner Cortez as commission chair and Commissioner Jesus Morales as vice chair, approved minutes from the May 20, 2024 meeting, and authorized a three-member subcommittee to develop the fiscal-year public art annual plan.
The vice chair election began with a self-nomination from Jesus Morales. After a second, the commission took a roll-call vote that the chair announced as passing. Later in the meeting Commissioner Cortez nominated himself for chair; a roll-call vote to elect Cortez also passed.
The commission approved minutes from the May 20, 2024 meeting by roll call, with the chair announcing the motion passed.
On a separate motion the commission established a public art annual-plan subcommittee made up of Commissioners Gonzales, Morales and Cortez. The chair announced the motion passed after a roll-call vote.
All three roll-call items were presented on the meeting floor and recorded as passing by the meeting chair. The commission recorded no dissenting votes during the public roll calls announced in the audio record.
The votes set the leadership and the subcommittee membership the commission said will work with staff to prepare the annual public art plan for presentation to the City Council by April 1, per the city's ordinance establishing the public art program.
