The Cheektowaga Planning Board approved an application to install electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure at 4193 Genesee, with the approval recorded as contingent on any recommendations from the Environmental Advisory Committee. Dan Moran of Arcadis described the project as converting an existing parking lot to add EV charging stalls and related electrical service.
Moran said the plan calls for 16 new EV charging stalls and described the equipment as 8 new chargers with two accessible (ADA) stalls noted in the presentation. "This project is converting a existing parking lot," Moran said. He added the chargers would be freestanding, outside units and that BP would install the chargers on land owned by Hertz.
Board members asked about safety, fire suppression and lighting. Moran said the new chargers are fed directly from switchgear with built-in safety shutoffs; he said the units monitor amperage and will automatically cut power if an overcurrent condition occurs. Moran said there is no fire suppression associated with the chargers and that a lighting study exists to limit spillover to neighboring parcels; the applicant expected to provide that study.
The board approved the application with the explicit condition that any EAC recommendations be addressed; the motion was recorded as approval "pending any EAC recommendations or concerns." The transcript shows the installation will be open to the public, with the location selected to serve airport-area traffic and ride-hailing drivers.
