The Cheektowaga Planning Board recommended approval of a project presented by BOLAR Engineering, with the board making the recommendation contingent on further sign-offs from the town's Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC) and any required variances or approvals from the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Garrett Steiner of BOLAR Engineering told the board he believed the town had submitted the project to the NFTA and municipal agencies and had not received comments indicating the project would negatively affect the airport or the NFTA. "I believe the board is familiar with this project from last month, but I can do a brief overview if you want," Steiner said.
Board members pressed staff on outstanding responses from external agencies. One board member asked, "Well, if they don't know, how can we really vote on it? They didn't get a reply back." The board ultimately moved that the item be recommended to the appropriate permitting and advisory bodies rather than finalized locally. A motion to recommend approval, with the condition that the EAC review and any NFTA or FAA permissions be secured, passed on a voice vote.
The board noted the item will return to the EAC for formal review, and any NFTA or FAA requirements must be satisfied before final local approvals or permits are issued. The board characterized its action as a recommendation rather than final permit issuance.
