Public comment included multiple speakers in support of retaining the parklet and its refreshed design; speakers said the parklet supports the business and the block’s vitality. Staff confirmed the project received preliminary Public Works review, but the commission asked staff to confirm a specific technical requirement (distance from curb cuts) as part of the return submittal.
Commission guidance and conditions included:
- Replace horizontal metal siding with vertical wood siding or equivalent that is visually compatible with El Pueblo Viejo. - Use a simple market umbrella (solid color) — avoid scalloped/crenelated trims. - Provide a solid color treatment or wrap for the K‑rail traffic barriers (several commissioners suggested white or another simple, neutral color rather than the existing orange). - Applicant to return with color swatches and stamped Public Works approval or confirmation of compliance with any curb‑cut distance requirements.
The commission voted to continue the application so the applicant could supply material samples, color chips and final details; staff will confirm the public‑works technical review and whether any stamped approval notes can be provided.
