The College Station ISD Board of Trustees approved two technology items Aug. 7: a purchase of 1,300 HP laptop computers and a position title change in the technology department.
District technology staff told trustees the laptops will replenish and refresh classroom devices purchased under the 2023 bond and bring the district close to a 1:1 student‑to‑device ratio. The vendor offered $100 off each device for a total estimated savings of about $130,000, staff said. The purchase will be funded from 2023 bond proceeds already allocated for classroom technology.
“The 2023 bond funds are intended for this purpose,” the presenter said. The board voted 7‑0 to approve the purchase.
Separately, trustees approved renaming a vacant Programmer I position to System Administrator to reflect current operational needs for device management, Google apps administration and account management. The item passed unanimously; administrators said the change aligns staffing with modern district systems.
Ending: District staff said the laptop rollout will prioritize classrooms with greatest need and that savings from the vendor discount will be applied to further refreshes later this school year.
