Summary

The Henry County Public Schools Board of Education on Tuesday received a first review of three draft policy updates addressing purchasing procedures, student conduct and public-records requests.
Tanya Gerlick, deputy director of human resources, told the board the packet contains "three additional changes" and that the updates reflect recent Virginia-code changes and clarifications, including additions addressing cyberbullying and a restored Freedom of Information Act paragraph inserted by the Virginia School Boards Association. "Everything has been verified for legality, and this is just the first review," Gerlick said.
Board members were shown draft versions of policies DJF (purchasing procedures), JFC (student conduct) and KDA (requests for public records). Gerlick described the JFC revision as adding a clarification under student conduct concerning cyberbullying and said the VSBA had "readded" a paragraph related to FOIA that had been omitted in an earlier draft.
Superintendent and HR staff framed the presentation as an informational first review; the board did not take final action. Gerlick said the revisions will be available for board members to review in draft form ahead of future consideration.
Copies of the draft policies will remain available to board members and staff for further review, and the board will consider any formal motion on the policies at a later meeting once legal reviews and revisions are complete.
