Votes at a glance: Valley Center City Council actions

The Valley Center City Council completed a series of motions and resolutions at the meeting. The following is a concise list of each formal action recorded on the agenda and its outcome; where available, staff next steps are noted.

- Fall Fest: Approved request to waive permits/fees, close streets as requested, and donate $5,000 to the Valley Center Chamber of Commerce for Fall Fest 2025. (Motion carried.) Staff to coordinate closures with police and fire departments and the Chamber.

Each resolution authorizes construction and the creation of an improvement district with the project costs to be assessed to the benefiting lots, per the petitioners request. (All motions carried.)

- Multiuse path agreement (Seneca Street): Approved an agreement among KDOT, Sedgwick County and the City of Valley Center for construction of a multiuse path on Seneca Street; the city will receive up to $417,310 in federal/state funding for the trail portion and provide the local match (match to come from TIF revenues). The multiuse-path portion will be bid separately from the bridge/road project. (Motion carried.)

- Concrete curb and gutter replacement (West Third Street and other areas): Approved contract/quote for concrete curb and gutter replacement in multiple locations; work to be paid from the street system improvement line. (Motion carried.)

- Crack seal and road striping: Approved quotes from South Central Paving and Ceiling for crack sealing and pavement markings; total quoted cost $114,850.55 ($73,181.66 for crack seal and $41,673.50 for pavement markings). Funding from surplus and system improvement lines. (Motion carried.)

- Purchase of 39 Main Street: Approved purchase of downtown lot 39 Main Street from the Tom Fairway family trust for $150,000; staff may pursue a short-term interest-only loan (~$275/month) or use reserves as directed and will return with financing and environmental-next-step recommendations. (Motion carried.)

- Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) FY2025–2034: Council adopted the CIP plan for 2025–2034. (Motion carried.)

- Consent agenda: Council approved the consent agenda as presented. (Motion carried.)

All items above passed by voice vote with "motion carried" recorded in the meeting minutes.
