The City Commission approved the purchase of a used 2014 Mack Granite GU713 plow truck on June 30 to replace a mainline plow that was taken permanently out of service due to frame corrosion.
Motor pool staff reported lead time for a new plow truck of 12–15 months and recommended acquiring a used vehicle that can be readied for this coming winter. Staff identified a 2014 Mack Granite GU713 available from Eau Claire Mack Sales Inc. in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, for a purchase price not to exceed $80,000. Commissioners were told estimated additional retrofit parts would cost approximately $5,000 and labor about $10,000; the commission approved the purchase and a required motor pool budget adjustment. Commissioner Larson moved the purchase, a second was offered, and the motion passed 7-0.
The city manager clarified the used truck is a short-term fleet fill-in and that the city intends to order a new plow truck as soon as possible; the used unit may be repurposed as a dump truck after the new vehicle is received. The commission said the purchase protects road maintenance capacity for the upcoming winter.
