Wilson Pike waterline project: Crockett Park staging identified, Good Shepherd Church may be alternate site

City staff updated the commission on staging for the Wilson Pike 16-inch waterline project and on site logistics.

Staff showed maps indicating the pipeline route largely parallel to Wilson Pike and explained that available open-space for staging is limited along the alignment. The preferred staging area identified by staff is a lower field on the north end of Crockett Park accessed via a tunnel from the tennis facility; staff said the contractor would not interfere with the trail use, though one small piece of exercise equipment might be relocated temporarily.

Staff also told commissioners the contractor had approached Good Shepherd Church leadership about using church property as an alternate staging area; church leadership appeared amenable subject to board approval, so that site could serve as an alternate option. Staff said any staging area would be fenced and restored to its prior condition following construction.

Staff discussed access logistics, noting the field sits roughly 15 feet below road elevation and that an access drive would be needed; staff said the guardrail likely would remain in place and that contractors priced expected site work. Installations of the 16-inch waterline will require short, intermittent trail closures while active trenching occurs, but staff said those closures should be minimal.

Staff concluded by telling commissioners they would return with additional details as the contractor finalizes staging and access plans.
