Climate and emissions reduction advocates urge task force to center climate in 2026 bond

Environment Texas policy associate Ty Grama told the panel that the city has extensive climate planning but needs funding to implement those plans. “We constantly see the effects of climate change,” Grama said, and urged the task force to prioritize projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen resilience. He said previous plans relied on a 2025 climate bond that did not happen and argued the 2026 bond is the opportunity to act.

Adam Greenfield, speaking as an individual and representing Safe Streets Austin, proposed an ambitious “City Leap” concept to convert vehicle lanes on arterial streets into dedicated bus or bike lanes within five years. “This is not just about forestalling doom,” Greenfield said; he framed active transportation as both a climate and quality‑of‑life investment.
