Board allows select vendors to sell sealed mead at Lee County Library PopCon

The Lee County Board of Commissioners approved a request July 21 from Lee County Libraries to allow selected vendors to sell sealed bottles of mead and cider at the system’s annual PopCon event on Aug. 16, 2025.
Beth List, representing Lee County Libraries, told the board the PopCon event draws more than 3,500 visitors and that the library seeks to permit a limited number of vendors to sell sealed alcoholic beverages under terms set out in the county’s vendor agreement, which had been reviewed by county legal staff. “Over the last 7 years, this event has grown and we are now welcoming over 3,500 visitors… On your agenda tonight is our yearly request to allow select vendors to sell sealed bottles of mead or cider during the event,” List said.
List said the event will occur at the main library and the adjacent First Presbyterian Church parking lot, will feature 52 local crafters and artists and seven food vendors, and that the Lee County Sheriff’s Office will be present throughout the day. Commissioners asked no substantive questions; the motion to allow the select vendors carried by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
The county clerk tallied approvals by show of hands and recorded no votes against the motion. The library will proceed under the vendor agreement and the legal conditions attached to the event.
