Ray'Chel Wilson introduced as nominee to Greater Tulsa Area African American Affairs Commission

Ray'Chel Wilson, nominee to the Greater Tulsa Area African American Affairs Commission, introduced herself at the City Council meeting Wednesday, saying she has lived in Tulsa for seven years and is interested in serving the city's African American business and cultural communities.

Wilson told the council she is originally from Ohio and that a family connection to North Tulsa made returning feel like “an ancestral recalling.” She described arriving in Tulsa with Teach for America, later serving as a development director in the school system and now operating a bridal business, which she said has shaped her interest in both the business community and Tulsa’s Black Wall Street and Black Tech Street histories.

The councilor presiding announced the appointment fills a vacant seat with a term expiring May 1, 2028, and invited Wilson to attend the council’s confirmation agenda on July 30 at 5 p.m. No formal vote or action was recorded at the July 23 meeting.

Wilson thanked the council and members of the chamber for the opportunity and was dismissed after brief remarks thanking her for returning to Tulsa and offering to attend the confirmation hearing.

The nomination will return to the council for a formal confirmation vote at the July 30 meeting; the July 23 appearance served as an introduction and opportunity for members to hear from the nominee.
