Summary
The board's facilities committee reported on district realignment work, McClure Solar progress, three sewage-plant proposals, and multiple maintenance quotes including a diesel pump and flashing/brick repairs estimated about $100,000.
The Octorara Area School District facilities committee reported on July 21 that the district realignment went smoothly and staff facilitated a quick move, and it provided updates on several facilities projects and quotes under consideration.
Mister Conacher, stepping in for Dan Jurick, said the realignment “went well, and we're thankful for the staff for making it so easy.” The committee reported continued, steady progress on the McClure Solar project and said it is considering a centralized copy center to reduce copying costs. Committee members reviewed three sewage-plant proposals and decided to return to the drawing board to consider simpler designs.
The committee noted district maintenance and repair priorities: a quote from Ferguson McCann for redoing a diesel fuel tank pump at the bus fill station for $69,356; small repairs to bring two above-ground tanks into compliance; localized protection around an exposed leak alarm system; and flashing and repointing work around the district office and middle school, with an estimated cost of about $100,000. The committee also reviewed previously approved smaller purchases (autism-room furniture, a mini-split heat pump for a middle-school speech-therapy room and a variable frequency drive at the high school) that the board approved in the meeting’s consent actions.
On animal housing, committee discussion noted that sheds would be a temporary solution to replace the building that caught fire last year; the board later authorized purchase of sheds not to exceed $25,000 and asked that staff check permitting requirements as needed.
Ending — The committee flagged immediate follow-ups for facilities staff to confirm permits and schedule repairs and installations before the start of the school year.
