Schuylkill Valley High School selected to pilot FAA Part 107‑aligned drone program

District staff said the selection followed an interest form submitted by district staff, including district agriculture staff and Dr. Cashner, and that the pilot offers no‑cost professional development and curriculum aligned with the Federal Aviation Administration’s Part 107 knowledge and testing preparation. At the end of the course, students would be positioned to pursue FAA Part 107 certification, staff said.
Administrators said the pilot will allow collaboration with other participating districts statewide, provide curriculum and professional development, and could support Career and Technical Education (CTE) and STEM pathways. Staff noted at least one recent district graduate had prior experience using the district’s existing agricultural drone, indicating local student interest.
No formal vote was recorded; staff celebrated the selection and said they expect strong student interest from agricultural and Cisco networking students.
