District to host first curriculum expo; superintendent reports on safety audit, PTA outreach and parent-contact drive

Interim Superintendent Velusco used the superintendent’s report to give several operational updates: a district safety audit, PTA‑building outreach, a first-ever district curriculum expo and the results of a parent-contact initiative.
Velusco said the district is conducting a security audit with consultants visiting every building to review locks, access procedures and best practices for who may enter school buildings. She said the district will run safety trainings for staff throughout the year and noted the district hosted a presentation last week on procedures when outside visitors request meetings with students.
Velusco said the district is working to strengthen PTAs, that PTA leaders will be reaching out to parents and that she will meet with PTA leaders to hear parent concerns. She announced a district Curriculum Expo on Oct. 30 at Kakiat STEAM Academy (6–7:30 p.m.) to showcase instructional materials, partners and vendors and to provide workshops and childcare.
She also reported the district’s Stay Connected contact-information campaign: ECC (Early Childhood Center) achieved 79.46% parent response, with Fleetwood and Margettes at 73.24% and 72.58% respectively. The superintendent said a small central-office staff donation will be given to the ECC PTA.
