Board hears staffing questions, approves personnel items and hears update on superintendent search

Trustees raised questions about several personnel motions that listed teachers moving into permanent substitute roles because of certification lapses or pending certification. District HR staff said some certified teachers had lost or lacked required certification and that the district was using building substitute appointments as an interim step while certification issues were resolved. Staff said substitutes were covering classes while the district continues to recruit permanently certified teachers.
The board approved the consent agenda items 1–10 and action items 1–11. The consent-motion was seconded by Mr. Weismann; the subsequent action-items motion was moved by Mr. Gruber and seconded by Mr. Weismandel; both motions carried.
The board also considered a temporary per‑diem administrator in HR, described by the administration as a retired assistant superintendent of human resources to support HR, transportation and facilities through the transition; administrators said the prospective hire, Dr. Michael McLemore, would be paid on a per‑diem basis through June 30, 2026, with up to a 40‑hour workweek as needed.
District clerk Kathy reported that Southwest BOCES is managing the superintendent search, with a stakeholder survey to be posted on the district website and responses requested by Oct. 31; BOCES will host two stakeholder meetings and is scheduled to present to the board on Nov. 3 with compiled community input.
