The district said high-school Chromebooks 2.5 years or older and with 4GB of RAM will be replaced this fall, announced a districtwide wireless upgrade and said it will offer a December PSAT administration with College Board support; the district also maintains a hotspot inventory and plans regents review programs.
District technology and academic leaders described upgrades intended to support classroom learning and assessments, and they gave an update on standardized testing access.
Bhavin Gandhi, assistant superintendent for technology, told the board that high‑school students with Chromebooks that are 2.5 years or older and with 4 GB of RAM will receive new devices; the goal stated was to ensure reliable Chromebooks districtwide by November. The district also said it is replacing wireless access points across schools to improve coverage, speed and reliability to support instruction and computer-based testing. Spring Valley High School has two new hallway digital displays; building administrators will manage content.
Gandhi said the district maintains a stock of roughly 2,100 mobile hotspots purchased annually and that schools can request them; staff reported delivering about 250 hotspots in the two weeks before the Oct. 16 remote‑learning event.
Dr. Gonzales said the district and College Board have arranged an additional PSAT/SAT administration in December and that the district will cover the cost; College Board confirmed that scores from the December administration can still be used to qualify for merit scholarships. The district said it will provide online instruction with live tutors and asynchronous materials in advance of the December exam.
The board also heard that the district is developing regents-review offerings, including late-fall/early-winter sessions for the January administration and after‑school programs for June, and that school leaders will communicate dates and locations when finalized.
