Muskogee adopts 20-year comprehensive plan and updates future land-use map

The Muskogee City Council voted to adopt the City of Muskogee comprehensive plan and an updated future land-use map (Resolution No. 30 39) at its Aug. 30 meeting.
Sarah Winkle, planning staff, told the council the document is intended to guide growth and decision-making for the next 20 years and be revisited at five- and ten-year intervals. “The comprehensive plan is gonna outline our community vision, it's gonna provide guidance for our future growth and development, and it's also gonna give us a framework for all of our decision making in the future,” Winkle said.
Winkle said staff recommends approval and described planned community outreach tied to the rollout. The city will host a public launch event on Sept. 4 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the MLK Center; staff described the event as an opportunity for residents to review plan components and offer input.
Council members moved and seconded the resolution and approved it by roll call. The vote was recorded as unanimous in favor by members present.
The plan is framed as a living document; Winkle said staff expects to return with updates or amendments as needed after ongoing public input. The council’s adoption allows the city to begin using the plan as guidance for zoning, capital investments and other policy decisions, and signals the start of the public launch schedule described by staff.
