Local couple proposes to buy, restore Fourth Street Gym and keep district access

At the beginning of public comment at a KUNA JOINT DISTRICT meeting, resident Jared Whiting told trustees he and his wife, Brooke Whitey, are prepared to buy the Fourth Street Gym and pay for needed repairs and upgrades so the building can continue to serve local youth.
Whiting said he grew up in Kuna and that the Fourth Street Gym “holds a very special place in my heart.” He told trustees, “We're fully prepared to close within 10 days” and said the couple would “assume full responsibility for the necessary upgrades, the repairs, and any of the expenses that come with that.” He said their intent is not to take the resource away from the community but “to breathe new life into it and make sure it remains a meaningful asset for years to come.”
Whiting said the buyers would allow the district to continue to use the gym at scheduled times for practices; he also mentioned helping with some utility expenses for the 2025 school year. Brooke Whitey described a vision for a community sports space focused on positive youth development; she said the operation would remain small and community‑oriented rather than a commercial enterprise.
Trustees accepted documents Whiting left with staff and did not take formal action on the proposal at the meeting. No price or formal purchase agreement was announced during the public comment period.
