Azusa High HOSA teams earn multiple medals; two student board members introduced

Board members on Aug. 12 recognized Azusa High School Medical Academy students who won multiple medals at the HOSA SLC competition and introduced two newly appointed student board members.
Azusa High staff said 31 students attended the HOSA event in Sacramento; teachers reported medal wins in clinical laboratory events, biotechnology, clinical nursing, forensics, veterinary medicine and international competition where the chapter placed among competitors from several countries. Teacher Miss Aguirre and Mr. Fernandez highlighted students present at the meeting, naming Blanca, Alan, Charlotte, Thea, Noemi and Axel among medalists; staff said one student, JD, also medaled but was not present.
Board members congratulated the students and thanked staff and parents for supporting the program. Board Clerk Rodriguez Pena and Board Member Greer both praised the program as a pathway for early career exposure.
The board also formally introduced student board members Alina Torres (Sierra High School) and Jesse Pena Fernandez (Azusa High School). Superintendent Ortega said both students will represent the district’s student voice this year. Alina described new programs at Sierra — ROP Audio Technology, an engineering and manufacturing “SpiderLab,” and a journalism course — and invited families to a registration and giveaway event. Jesse outlined Azusa High plans including athletics and a new theater teacher and said student union applications are open.
The recognitions and student reports were presented as informational items; no board votes were required.
