Provo City engineering staff gave TMAC brief project updates on two bridge projects on Oct. 23: the 820 North bridge reconstruction and ongoing work on the University Avenue bridge.

For the 820 North bridge, staff said the contractor is expected to start and close the bridge on or about Nov. 10, with an estimated construction timeline of six to seven months. Detour routes will use 500 North and Independence; pedestrian routing will be maintained with signed detours and upgraded ADA ramps. Project information, construction updates and time-lapse videos will be posted at proriverbridge.com, staff said.

On University Avenue, staff said bridge surface repairs and potholing have been completed and that work is shifting toward demolition and reconstruction on the west side of the bridge. The project will maintain one travel lane north-south through much of construction, and the city is doing intersection improvements at State Street and Lakeview Parkway to support detour traffic. Staff said the overall University Avenue bridge project is slated for completion in 2027.

Staff asked the committee to expect regular online updates and noted that intersection and signal modifications are part of the detour and construction mitigation strategy. No actions or votes were taken on the bridge updates during the TMAC meeting.
