County staff said the project is in its final fundraising phase and that the requested county contribution would close a capital funding gap and allow the developer to adopt construction methods and mechanical systems that lower long-term operating costs. County staff described the project as part of a regional effort: the City of Saint Cloud has committed $1,190,000 and Sherburne County was described as considering a $100,000 contribution.
A county administrator told the board the total project is about $9 million and that the remaining gap is roughly $600,000; county leaders said they view the investment as a regional response to homelessness that could reduce long-term operating pressure on county health and human services programs.
Commissioner Clark, who seconded the motion, and other commissioners stressed the regional nature of homelessness services and encouraged partner counties to participate. The motion to approve the $165,000 contribution passed by voice vote.
