Committee increases commitment to Portland–Memorial intersection improvements to about $685,000

Chad Meisenberg, Geo Bond program manager, briefed the committee on a funding request to meet a city commitment on intersection improvements at Portland and Memorial that include Texas turnarounds and new radar detection electronics. The city originally committed about $650,000; Meisenberg said costs climbed and the committee’s request is for roughly $685,000 to fulfill the partnership agreement with the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.
Committee members asked which line items increased. Meisenberg attributed the rise mainly to material and heavy-construction cost inflation since the original pre-COVID estimates. “The concrete cost is up. Heavy construction is up 36 percent at a minimum,” he said, and added that poles and mast arms have nearly doubled and that electronics for the radar detection (wavetronics) rose from about $85,000 to roughly $300,000.
A motion to approve the increased funding commitment was moved by Doug and seconded by Lindsey; committee members approved the request and the item passed.
