Committee approves interim repairs at Southern Oaks Library after HVAC failure

Chad Meisenberg, Geo Bond program manager, told the committee Southern Oaks Library experienced an air-conditioner failure and the facility is running on a rented unit. He proposed using available unlisted funds to make immediate repairs to bring interior temperatures down to about 70 degrees and to address related roof, HVAC and drainage problems. Meisenberg said this request addresses part of the scope listed for the library in the 2025 geo bond program but not the entire bond-funded project.
During discussion, a committee member asked whether the library would remain open during work; Meisenberg said it would. Committee members also asked about the project cost breakdown. Meisenberg said the air conditioner and roof are substantial cost items, and that drainage improvements around the building could amount to about $750,000 by themselves. He also estimated security door upgrades at roughly $50,000. Committee members referenced a larger $1.4 million figure for total work on a building of this size but Meisenberg said the current request covers early, urgent items and the remainder would be completed if/when the 2025 bond is approved.
The motion to advance the immediate repairs was moved by Lindsey and seconded by Jackie; committee members approved the request.
