Commissioners direct staff to explore making Douglas County fall festival an annual event

Douglas County commissioners voted Sept. 23 to direct staff to begin planning for an annual fall festival following the county’s 30th‑anniversary open‑space celebration at Sandstone Ranch.
Commissioners said the inaugural county-run fall festival attracted large crowds, featured face painting, pumpkins, food trucks and music, and engaged families and local businesses. One commissioner said the event felt much larger than expected and recommended making it an annual offering.
A motion to “begin plans for next fall” was moved, seconded and adopted unanimously by the board. The motion directs staff to return with recommendations and planning steps; no budget appropriation or firm date was set during the Sept. 23 meeting.
County staff noted the open-space program’s broader goals of land acquisition, trail development and public access and said they will include those priorities in future festival planning.
