Douglas County signs onto secondary manufacturers opioid settlement; county to receive portion of statewide distribution

Douglas County approved participation forms on Sept. 23 to join a settlement with eight opioid manufacturers, part of a statewide framework the county entered in August 2021.
Maureen Waller, project coordinator, told commissioners the settlement with the secondary manufacturers is for $12,000,000 statewide. Under the statewide memorandum of understanding that the county previously joined, funds will be distributed 60% to regions, 20% to local governments, 10% to an infrastructure program and 10% to the state. Waller said the allocation tied to this settlement will result in roughly $265,000 to the region and about $88,000 to local governments; combined, the county expects approximately $350,000 in additional funds directed to the region and local governments.
The board moved and seconded a motion to sign the participation forms and join the settlement; the motion carried unanimously with all present voting “aye.” Waller described this as a continuation of the county’s participation in statewide opioid‑settlement distributions; the county previously signed on to the Purdue settlement discussed at a prior meeting.
