City reports 110 sidewalks completed, moves into next project quadrant

City staff gave an update on the municipal sidewalk replacement program during the Sept. 8 Garden City City Council meeting, reporting about 110 houses have received new sidewalks in the first project area.
Mister Miller (city official) said the completed area is north of Marquette and west of Merriman and that the contractor OCG is working on intersection improvements and ditch work as part of the same project. "We're about a 110 houses that are completed," Miller said.
Staff described a three-step resident notification process: an initial door-hanger notice when a property is selected, a more detailed letter with contact instructions, and a post-work notice explaining restoration procedures and how to report questions. Miller said residents receive information about sprinkler and right-of-way protections and that the city asks residents not to salt new sidewalks during the first year to aid curing and grass restoration.
Miller said the program will move into Quadrant 2 (east of Merriman toward Middlebelt) as crews progress. The city also runs a sidewalk chalk program and provides chalk at city hall for residents.
No council vote was required for the update; it was presented as an informational report in the manager/department update portion of the meeting.
