Council approves lot split at 5907 and 5921 Middlebelt to accommodate new business

Garden City — The Garden City City Council approved a lot split and new legal descriptions for properties at 5907 and 5921 Middlebelt Road, clearing the way for the sale of the rear parcel and a new business occupying part of the site.
Community Development Director Matt Miller said the split reconfigures two parcels so that the back parcel (5921) will stand on its own with separate legal description and utilities; the front parcel will retain the front address. Staff said the reconfiguration meets requirements for water and sewer service, parking and setbacks.
Councilmember Hughes moved to approve the lot split and the new legal descriptions; the motion passed 7-0.
Councilmember Kerafotis said the new business coming to the rear property will be Sharon’s Heating and Cooling and that the company will renovate the façade, add parking and fencing, and bring "60 more employees to Garden City." The council’s approval included required easements to be executed upon sale.
Ending: The council approved the lot split by unanimous vote; staff will coordinate required easements and final legal descriptions with the property owner and purchaser as the sale completes.
