Council approves one-year extension with Bucelli Group for building inspection services

Garden City — The Garden City City Council voted 7-0 to approve a one-year extension of the city’s agreement with the Bucelli Group for building inspection services, keeping the same rates through Dec. 31, 2026.
Community Development and Building Director Matt Miller told council the Bucelli Group contract supplies four full-time employees and three part-time trade inspectors who perform inspections across the city for permits, rental properties and sales. Miller said the building department issued 2,058 permits last year and completed 4,785 inspections.
Miller also credited the Bucelli Group with assisting the city’s online permitting process, enabling applicants to submit plans, schedule inspections and pay online. He said the contractor receives 67% of inspection fees while the city retains 33% under the existing arrangement.
Councilmember Witt moved to extend the Bucelli Group agreement at the same rates until Dec. 31, 2026; Mayor Pro Tem Dole seconded and the motion passed 7-0.
Ending: Council instructed staff to continue monitoring building department performance and the online permitting rollout; no changes to the fee split or staffing were approved at the meeting.
