Staff described a two‑day October program: a morning/afternoon training for county and college employees (roughly 200 seats total) and an evening community forum moderated by community leaders connected to the Billy Frank Jr. statue project. The events are designed to strengthen tribal‑government relations, cultural awareness and staff training on regional history and tribal treaties.
Commissioners discussed the expense in the context of current budget constraints; some said they were inclined to conserve funds but supported this particular training as high priority and already budgeted. The motion to authorize the expenditure passed on a voice vote.
