The Nursing Education and Workforce Advisory Committee voted Wednesday to approve minutes from its March 5 and June 25, 2025 meetings, to schedule two meetings in 2026 and to elect Janine Graves as chair and Sajid DeGuzman as vice chair, effective at the close of the Sept. 10 session.
Committee members voted to accept the March 5 and June 25 minutes with minor editorial changes by BRN staff. Chair Garrett Chan called the roll for the vote; multiple members answered yes and the motion carried. "The motion passes," Chan said after counting yes votes.
The committee also voted to meet on Jan. 21, 2026 and July 29, 2026 (replacing a previously proposed July 22 date). The motion to set those dates passed on a roll-call vote after members discussed calendar conflicts and the potential effect of pending state legislation that would govern remote meeting authority.
On leadership, Janine Graves was nominated and accepted the nomination for chair, with the caveat that she and outgoing chair Garrett Chan would work together in a transition. Sajid DeGuzman accepted the vice chair nomination. The committee approved both officers in a roll-call vote; the new roles take effect at the conclusion of the Sept. 10 meeting.
Separately, the committee approved a motion to appoint Garrett Chan to serve on the Clinical Placement and Impaction subcommittee through his appointment term (through May 31, 2026). That motion was seconded and carried.
The committee recorded votes on the public record during the session; members present voted by roll call and staff confirmed quorum before each action.
The BRN moderator and staff will publish the official minutes and the roll-call vote tallies on the BRN website once they finalize minor editorial edits.
