Wasco police report half-month activity: 788 incidents to date, 7 DUIs; National Night Out set for Oct. 10

Wasco Police Department Lieutenant de la Terra presented the department’s public‑safety report, saying the figures covered roughly half of the month and therefore totals appear lower than month‑end expectations.
Through the reporting period the department handled 476 calls for service and 312 officer‑initiated incidents for a combined 788 incidents to date; Lieutenant de la Terra said the department expects to finish the month with about 1,600 incidents, consistent with the usual monthly average. The department logged 44 arrests to date. In stolen‑vehicle activity, officers took three reports and recovered one vehicle.
On traffic enforcement, officers completed 202 traffic stops, issued 51 citations and made seven DUI arrests so far that month. Lieutenant de la Terra described the DUI enforcement as a step toward safer roadways.
The department also reported nine positive citizen contacts and participation in the Wasco Rose Festival parade, where a Powell float placed third. Lieutenant de la Terra said the department is planning National Night Out for Oct. 10 and encouraged community turnout.
Council members thanked police for outreach and for participating in community events. No formal action or vote was associated with the report; it was provided for informational purposes.
