Pitkin County sets public hearings for third‑quarter budget supplemental requests

Pitkin County on Sept. 10 voted to approve on first reading a resolution to provide third‑quarter supplemental appropriations to the 2025 budget and scheduled a public hearing for Sept. 25.
Connie Baker, Pitkin County budget director, told commissioners the revised resolution increases budgeted expenditures by $2,736,993 and increases budgeted revenues by $528,516, producing a net budget increase of $2,208,477. “With that dollar change, the resolution before the board would increase the county's budgeted expenditures by $2,736,993 ... that’s offset by an increase in budgeted revenues of $528,516 for a net increase to the budget of $2,208,477,” Baker said.
Baker walked the board through requests included in the resolution: a new paralegal position in the county attorney’s office; courthouse chiller and heating repairs; a Health and Human Services sewer line repair increase (revised from $100,000 to $225,000); increases to capital projects including building access control modernization; funds for a narcotics testing device in the sheriff’s office; library boiler repairs and expanded security guard coverage; increases to community assistance and property tax rebate programs; HCBS/MEDICAID grant appropriations; and an increase to housing acquisition funding in the housing impact fee fund.
Commissioners discussed staffing transitions in the county’s telecoms and 911 programs and confirmed the board will review the packaged requests at the public hearing on Sept. 25. The first‑reading motion passed and the board set the item for public hearing that day.
