Cherokee students report national leadership conference wins to school board

Members of Cherokee Public Schools’ Family, Career and Community Leaders of America chapter told the school board about competitive results and personal milestones from this summer’s National Leadership Conference.
The students and their advisor said the chapter sent 17 national competitors and returned with seven national placements, including four national champions. “We returned home with the most success our chapter has ever seen,” Harper Larimore said.
Advisor Victoria Spencer said the group missed an earlier meeting and asked the board to accept this presentation as an update on the chapter’s trip. Students described competitive finishes—three third-place national titles by Kaylee Eckhart, Kaylee Patterson and Jennifer Salinas—and named four national champions: Lainie Price, Harper Larimore, Montana Lampana Ledford and Emma Smith.
Students also described workshops and presentations members delivered at the conference. Kaylee Eckhart said chapter members gave sessions on leadership and community impact, and mentioned a student presentation she identified as a “Red Talk,” FCCLA’s format similar to a TED Talk. Other students noted travel milestones: several had never flown or left the state before attending the conference.
Board members voiced support. One board member told the students, “we are all proud of you all.” The students and advisor thanked the district and community for support that helped fund the trip.
The presentation occurred during the public comment portion of the meeting and did not prompt formal board action.
The board packet lists FCCLA-related fundraisers on the activity fund section; the district also discussed routine approvals on the consent agenda later in the meeting.
