South Fayette School Board approves business, personnel, education, athletics and construction items; one abstention

The South Fayette Township School District committee of the whole on Aug. 19 approved a slate of routine business, personnel, education, athletics and construction items including renewals of service agreements, dozens of personnel actions, an athletics facilities agreement and a traffic assessment for a planned bus depot.
The board voted to approve three business-office items recommended by the superintendent and the director of student support services, including renewal of the district's agreement for education services for children and youth experiencing homelessness and a contract for the SWIS suite to support the 2025-26 PBIS program. The motions were moved by Esther and seconded by Rebecca and the board voted to approve the items.
The board approved 35 personnel items (listed on the agenda as items 1—34 and item 37) including multiple resignations, new hires for certified and support positions, substitute and coach appointments, and leave extensions. The motion to approve those personnel items was made by Lynn and seconded by Jen; Board member Theresa recorded an abstention on personnel item 33 and the remainder passed.
Education items 10—12 were approved, including the district's renewal of an agreement with CARES of Western Pennsylvania to assist with high-school transition services and revisions to student and faculty handbooks.
Under athletics, the board approved an agreement to use tennis courts at Char Valley for the upcoming school year at an estimated cost of $3,220 and approved Fort Cherry's requested use of South Fayette stadium facilities on Sept. 5 at no cost to the district; the board noted students will be bused to off-site facilities and practice schedules may vary depending on host availability.
The board also approved a construction item: contracting Herbert, Ballon, and Grubic, Inc. to conduct a traffic assessment and circulation study for the district's bus depot project at a cost of $26,980.
No public comments were offered during the designated public-comment periods. The board announced it had met in executive session before the meeting to discuss personnel and legal matters. The meeting concluded with customary well-wishes for the start of the 2025-26 school year and a vote to adjourn.
