Utah County Commission proclaims August World Breastfeeding Month

The Utah County Commission unanimously adopted a resolution recognizing August as World Breastfeeding Month during its Aug. 13, 2025, meeting.
Commissioner Gardner said the month is an opportunity to promote breastfeeding and ensure families have resources to support nursing. Gardner cited federal and international guidance, saying outcomes “for children health and mothers for their health, are all better with breastfeeding.” The resolution, prepared with the county health department’s WIC office, also acknowledges recent county policy changes to provide more inclusive breastfeeding support for employees, Gardner said.
Gardner made the motion to approve the item; another commissioner seconded. The commission approved the resolution by voice vote, with the chair calling for those in favor to say “aye.” The commission did not record a roll-call vote in the transcript.
During the public comment period following the vote, Richard Nelson, Utah County public works director, informed the commission that Clyde Naylor, a former public works director and county surveyor of roughly 30 years, had died earlier in the week. Nelson said there would be a viewing in Orem the following night and a funeral on Friday and asked that staff circulate those details so former colleagues and county employees could be notified.
The meeting proceeded to a closed session and later adjourned.
