Mahtomedi Public School District officials reviewed a community referendum engagement calendar and asked board members to sign up to staff informational tables at schools and community events ahead of scheduled learning sessions.
The superintendent said the district has begun a series of referendum community learning sessions and that an overview video will be released “tomorrow, our overview video will be out,” to accompany materials on the district’s referendum web page. She encouraged the public to consult the site for FAQs, schedules and videos explaining the proposal.
Board members and staff spent much of the discussion checking the engagement calendar and filling gaps in coverage for tables at school open houses and other events. The superintendent said the district has multiple referendum sessions in September and October; the board highlighted a September 9 session in the high school media center at 5:30 p.m. and additional sessions on dates in September and October that are published on the district’s site. Members were asked to review an online sign-up and indicate partial time slots they could cover.
Staff described the table setup at back-to-school events as a staffed information table among many vendor/organization tables in gymnasiums or cafeterias where board members can greet families, hand out flyers and answer questions. Board members and staff discussed coordination for specific events (for example, playground dedications and meet-the-teacher/assessment days) so volunteers can cover overlapping activities. One board member noted that coverage need not be continuous and that partial shifts are acceptable.
The calendar conversation also included operational details: staff will continue populating an FAQ on the referendum site as questions arise, and the district will post videos and other outreach materials online in the coming days. No formal vote or policy change was taken; the board asked members to indicate availability and asked staff to continue filling the sign-up spreadsheet and public schedule.
