Brentwood Beer Board approves on-premises beer permit for Jonathan's Grill at Creekside Crossing

The applicants told the board they have training and policies intended to prevent underage sales and to respond to intoxicated patrons. The board moved to approve the permit with a motion by Commissioner Donahue and a second by Commissioner Gowers; the motion passed unanimously.
Katie Scully, director of operations for Jonathan's Grill, described the chain's training program for new hires, saying, "we make them go through a process of 10 to 15 shifts to, explain the importance of not serving underage to any minor." She said trainees must obtain an Alcoholic Beverage Commission (ABC) credential before completing training and that staff are required to check identification for all patrons.
Courtney Russell, regional manager for the Brentwood location, and Colton Carver, the Brentwood general manager, said the restaurant uses floor layout and staffing to limit minors' access to the bar area; applicants clarified that individuals under 21 will not be permitted to sit in the cocktail/bar section. Carver outlined steps staff take when a patron appears intoxicated: offering food, asking whether the patron wants staff to call someone for them, arranging a rideshare such as Uber if the patron will accept one, and contacting law enforcement if the person cannot safely leave by other means. "First thing that we'll do is ask them if there's anybody that we can call for them," Carver said.
The board chair noted Brentwood Police Chief Colvin was present and encouraged the applicants to coordinate with the police department on any incidents that require law enforcement support. The applicants told the board they are targeting an opening date of Oct. 6 for the Brentwood restaurant.
The Beer Board recorded the procedural motion and vote on the permit during its new business item. Commissioner Donahue made the motion to approve; Commissioner Gowers seconded. The chair called for the ayes and the motion carried with no recorded opposition.
The board had no public commenters signed for the beer board item, and no amendments or conditions to the permit were stated on the record. After the vote the chair welcomed the restaurant to Brentwood and the meeting moved to adjournment.
