Votes at a glance: Satellite Beach council adopts stormwater assessment, approves appointments and consent items

The Satellite Beach City Council took several formal actions on Aug. 20, including adopting the annual stormwater assessment roll, approving consent agenda items A and C, confirming multiple board appointments and approving the consolidated medical director contract.

Stormwater assessment: City staff presented the Brevard County assessment roll showing 5,495 accounts to be billed for a total assessment amount of $1,025,391.01. The council adopted Resolution No. 1074 to impose the annual stormwater utility assessment for the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, 2025. The council noted the stormwater rate remains $200 and has not increased since 2018; staff said the stormwater assessment program began in 1994.

Consent agenda: Council approved consent items A and C (minutes and an annual agreement/grant item); item B (medical director) was pulled for discussion and later approved as a separate motion.

Board appointments: The council reappointed Melissa Lomax (Board of Adjustments), Arlan Massey (Library Board) and Cindy Kane (Planning Advisory Board, alternate). New appointments and reassignments included Les Vail (Board of Adjustment primary), Julia Brooks (Sustainability Board primary), Jazzy Hennings (Board of Adjustments alternate) and William Booth (Sustainability Board alternate). The council noted two library board alternate vacancies and said staff will continue outreach to recruit youth council high-school members.
