Bullhead City Recreation Division lists August–September programs, senior and youth events

Superintendent Heath presented the Bullhead City Recreation Division’s current programs and upcoming events during the Aug. 20 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting.
Heath said the division recently added an inclusive walking program for people of all abilities, held weekdays 10:30 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at the Optimum Community Center. The division is hosting a National Senior Citizens Day event Aug. 21 with a free pool party 9 a.m.–11 a.m. and three free snow cones for attendees 50 and older; a free movie (80 for Brady) with popcorn and pizza will be shown at 2 p.m. at the Optimum Community Center. Pizza Hut is listed as a sponsor for senior events.
Weekly and one-off programs listed by staff include open chess play Thursdays in Rooms 602 (beginners) and 603 (experienced), indoor RC racing Aug. 22 in Room 603, Funbelievable Friday children’s programs (Aug. 22, Aug. 29, Sept. 5, Sept. 12), Golden Games training sessions on Aug. 29 and Sept. 10 (the latter at Don Laughlin’s Riverside Resort/Riverside Lanes, $10 for three games plus $2 for shoes), a horseshoe tournament Sept. 12 at Ken Fovard Park (free, ages 12+), a corn hole (corn ********) tournament Sept. 17, volleyball Golden Games training Sept. 15, and upcoming baseball and adult fast-pitch softball tournaments at Rotary Park and Ken Fovard Park organized by Power Play Sporting Events and others. Mohave College soccer games will also be held in August and September; admission applies and schedule information is available via Mohave College’s website.
Heath encouraged residents to register for programs at bullheadcity.com/recdesk and noted several events are free of charge and have sponsorship support from local businesses including Pizza Hut, MEC Foods and Jerry Thompson Farmers Insurance. The superintendent closed his report by noting the high level of community programming across parks and recreation facilities.
